Mail delivery errors

Unrouteable address, Unrouteable mail domain
| This article/section is a stub — probably a pile of half-sorted notes and assertions some of which may well be wrong, and not verified as a whole. Feel free to add or refine. |
While separate errors, both are general, and the reasons overlap a little.
The domain error usually means the server (that sent this message) doesn't know where to send the message to, which can be caused by
- a misspelled email address (in the server/domain part)
- bad MX records on the target domain's side (verify)
Other general reasons:
- for spam protection (too many mails sent)
Other reasons:
- local user has no mailbox set up
- local (effective) user not allowed to send mail
