A cultivar is a plant that is cultivated differently enough to be given a separate name.

Examples of cultivars include various beans - various beans in your supermarket are biologically almost identical, but have different shapes and names.


Cultivars are biologically identical enough to typically be in the same species, just bred to cultivate specific physical properties, e.g. for yield.


This is not the same as growing the exact same thing differently. For example, witlof is common chicory grown in the dark.
