Dressings are sauces, usually the sour kind and containing vinegar and/or citrus juice, oil, regularly sugar, and often flavouring such as salt, and things like such as pepper, garlic, oregano, dill, and regularly pieces of vegetable.


Many dressings are salad dressings, added to various types of salad, while others are used more as a condiment, in sandwiches, as dips, and more.


Less usual dressings may be based on something like {{ingredient|ketchup, mayonnaise, yogurt, cream or some other milk product, and contain salad-ish ingredients like radish, chives, green onion, pimentos.
