Timecode refers to adding time information to a signal that does not necessarily contain it.

Practically, timecode usually refers to SMPTE timecode used around recorded video and film, useful because it lets you refer to specific frames in the video, which is great for editors, to be able to sync it, and also broadcasters that want precise playback.

MIDI Time Code is sort of SMPTE in MIDI, but no one much uses it.

MIDI beat clock is arguably another timecode, but due to it being part of the same not-too-fast stream, even when it gets priority over everything else, you should assume it has some jitter.
