In linguistics, 'sense' is often used in a this "this can have multiple meanings, and we are pointing at one" way.

It comes up when there is no one-to-one mapping in the lexicalization of concepts.

The border between different senses may be ill defined.

There is an upper limit to human agreement of senses, which in turn means there is a computational limit when emulating the human understanding of senses.
