The Security Center could not change your Automatic Update settings

If the security center shows antivirus and firewall as disabled, and reports similar errors for all these components, you may have malware.


If only updates are disabled, you may have disabled some of the supporting services (e.g. Automatic Update, Background Intelligent Transfer Service, Event Manager). Surfing Internet Explorer to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com will probably say something to that effect.
