This article/section is a stub — some half-sorted notes, not necessarily checked, not necessarily correct. Feel free to ignore, or tell me about it.

Material

Doesn't hugely matter, it's more about stiffness.

Clear hula hoops are often polypro (short for polypropylene)

Size

Bigger hoops make on-body moves easier. Floor to bellybutton, plus or minus something based on your waist size, is a sensible rule of thumb.

so adult sized hulahoops are 90..110cm diameter, so 282..345cm around (35..43" diameter, 110..140" around)

Kids sizes are 80cm (31") diameter plus or minys a few.

Weight / material

In general, heavier (e.g. 500g) means easier to manage, and easier to learn on.

Lighter (250-350g) is more responsive for some tricks, less likely to bruise, makes e.g. off-body moves easier and less tiring, and may be preferable for lightly built people.

Flexibility also matters, in that sturdier is more responsive, while materials with some give are harder to control.

Tape

Tape adds shiny, a little weight, and often a little grip.
