Tempeh (also tempe) is made through controlled fermentation of soy beans, and comes in a solid form.

Tempeh is often prepared by dicing, possibly spiced, then fried.

It has more texture and flavour than tofu, and a little more nutritional value as well, mostly protein.

Its taste is regularly described as nutty or somewhat mushroom-like, and can be a little too specific to use as a generic protein source.
