Reference designators can refer to standardized labeling ...in anything - like construction, industry, power plants (see e.g. IEC 81346).


I found this because I cared about reference designators in electronics - the labeling on circuit board (silkscreen) that indicate what type of component goes there, and which one .


There's not only a standard, there are several, so there's not really a standard.
