In electronics, Electronics notes/Ground


In linguistics, grounding refers to taking something merely profiled by e.g. a nominal, and placing it something in time, location, or otherwise making a reference more specific or concrete.

In that case, you could say that a nominal declares the type, and grounding it points to an instance of that type, though the concept is a little fuzzier than that.

(somewhat more philosopically - or perhaps practically in the sense that in dialogue you often need to do this - it can refer to coordinating agreement to mutual beliefs[1] and references)
