Buffer

In programming (and networking, though it may have more specific names), a buffer refers to memory used as a temporary, intermediate store before it can be delivered where it should go.

In electronics, buffers are often used to not do unduly amounts of loading of a source (often by presenting an impedance impedance that is high for that particular context).

In computers, both are happening.
