Frequency space filtering notes

That is:

do an Fourier transform

play with the frequency-space magnitudes

do an inverse Fourier transform

...typically with the goal of attenuating different frequencies.

Since the information in both spaces is equivalent, such filtering makes sense whenever you can express a filter more easily in the frequency domain.
