Goulash is a spicy Hungarian dish (gulyás), somewhere between soup and stew.
There seem to be a lot more more imitations than recipes for the Hungarian dish,
but that's how it goes with anything that becomes more widely known.
Many are a little simpler, so the following is rough:
Basic ingredients:
- Beef
- Onions
- Paprika powder
- Hot peppers - usually. The original dish is spicy, but not all variations are.
